Dr. Daniel O’Brien


Biography

Dr. O'Brien obtained his Medical Doctorate (MD) and Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) in clinical research design from the University of California at Davis (2014). He then completed his residency at West Virginia University, where he served as chief resident in his final year (2020).  

Dr. O'Brien joined Dr. Wright's fellowship in July of 2020. During his time at the Alberta Sinus Centre, Dr. O'Brien completed the requisite course work for a PhD under the dual supervision of Dr. Wright and Dr. Dean Eurich, in the University of Alberta School of Public Health.  While with the Sinus Centre, Dr. O'Brien completed both his specialty certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOTO). Dr. O'Brien co-founded the Multidisciplinary Inflammatory Airway Collaboration with respirology, allergy and immunology, and worked closely with the University of Alberta oculoplastic team, gaining exposure and expertise working in and around the orbit. 

Since completing his fellowship (December 2022), Dr. O'Brien has assumed the directorship for Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at CHI/Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska. Dr. O'Brien is currently at the rank of Associate Professor, and with a research focus on patient reported outcomes focusing on decisional conflict and regret. Dr. O'Brien continues to participate in local, national, and international courses and meetings to help train the next generation of rhinologsis and skull base surgeons.
